Shared Hosting & RBL's

Postby daveg » Tue Mar 26, 2013 11:53 am

We take spam very seriously. It is a violation of our Acceptable Usage Policy and an annoyance for everyone. Unfortunately on a shared host, a single spamming user can get the server's IP blacklisted and cause problems for other users sending legitimate mail. We try to prevent this by responding to all spam complaints in a timely manner and refusing service to repeated violators.

Every remote mail provider (company your attempting to email/their suppliers) uses any number of publicly available blacklists and/or their own custom blacklists, and removal from these lists must be done on a RBL per-provider basis.

We handle these situations by responding to all spam complaints in a timely manner and try to prevent our IP's from being blacklisted in the first place. In the event that one of our shared host's IP's is blacklisted, we will go through the removal process by dealing with spamming users and contacting the blacklist for removal.

Unfortunately there is no way of identifying all blacklists the server has been listed on because of a single spam violation, so we can only assist our users in placing requests to the RBL providers to have our server delisted when lists are identified, The time it takes any RBL provider to stop reporting an IP after a request is submitted can be anywhere from 1 hour to 2 weeks from us submitting the removal request (there is nothing we can do about this). Most good RBL's will work within 1 hour. If you are unhappy with this common issue of all shared hosting services we suggest you inquire about our VPS/Dedicated server plans.
