Redirect and email ?

Hi all
I have a redirect to my home dev machine
and am unable to get my email to work.
So the question is does a redirect. redirect all the mail records
such as
mx
a
cname
at present I keep getting relay access denied
I have a single public IP ?

Hello,

Judging by the error message it sounds like this problem you are having is a software issue..

The first thing you need is that the mail is pointing to the correct IP address. You can do this online @ http://www.dnsstuff.com

The second thing you need to check is that the IP address you are using is listening for requests. You can double check this with Telnet from the command prompt:

For example
>telnet 192.168.1.1 25
or
>telnet mx2.mail.yahoo.com 25

You should see something like:
>220 mta332.mail.re4.yahoo.com ESMTP YSmtp service ready

Finally you need to make sure that your software is setup correctly, there should be a setup guide with your mail server. Its also a good idea to make sure that your mail server does not have an open relays. You can check this online @ http://www.abuse.net/relay.html
